Peek a Boo

One lonely window is unwrapped upstairs.  The rest are still bundled up and the walls are still covered.  But lots of masking happened downstairs.  I'm a bit nervous about the weather tomorrow for our pour, but we'll see!

Okay...Maybe it's Not White

Either they snuck and painted the trim the correct color sometime over the weekend, or they painted it the correct color all along and I just thought it was white.  😆  Who knows.  I blame it on the paint fumes.  Anyway, our upstairs trim got a second coat of paint today and it looks beautiful.  We are so anxious to see all the masking peeled away to reveal the dark windows and trim that's the same color as the walls.  We know we wanted dark windows, but trim color choice was a gamble.  Hopefully we'll see it sometime this week.  They've also been busy masking downstairs.

If the weather holds, they're planning to do our first concrete pour on Wednesday and the second pour on Friday.  Crossing our fingers that the weather cooperates.  We really need the porch and driveway poured so other subs can move forward.

The wrecked range hood was picked up today and the new hood is leaving Colorado tomorrow.  They're using a different shipping company this time.  No surprise there!  Let's hope the new hood arrives in one piece.

White To Black To White

We've gone from white to black, now back to white.  And the chaos is spreading downstairs.  They made good progress masking the mudroom and laundry room today.

Thanksgiving Surprise

We didn't think anyone would work today, but we have Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron colored windows upstairs!

Getting Worse Before They Get Better

The post bases out back are finished.  And the upstairs windows look awful.  But I guess they're awful in a good way, since it's progress.

Crime Scene

Well, I didn't see this one coming!  I think I've been listening to too many Criminal podcasts because when I walked upstairs and turned on the light my initial thought was CRIME SCENE.  😆
Turns out they just went crazy with the Bondo filler today, and they started caulking downstairs.  And great news...all our appliances are staged in the warehouse and scheduled for install on December 28th!

Primer

Primer!  Very smelly primer!  Almost all of the upstairs trim has been primed along with the windows.

The cushions for the reading nooks have been ordered.  We found a big sectional sofa for the movie room that should be fun.  And I'm gathering other odds and ends for the house.  I've given up trying to keep things tidy for now.  We're preparing to move, and it shows.

HAZMAT Area

Big day!  The hearth slabs were installed and there's corner rock on some of the back porch post bases.  We think we might use an enhancing sealer on the interior slab to make it look more charcoal rather than gray, but that's still tbd.  You can see our test in one pic.

The upstairs looks like a cdc containment area.  All the casement windows have been removed.  There's plastic on the walls and ceiling.  Viv's room has been turned into a paint booth for spraying the windows.

And we have a generator!  It's been wrapped in plain cardboard and taped up to be less conspicuous.  And the builder changed the garage door code.  The transfer switch is being securely stored at the builder's house.  We don't want this thing to go anywhere!

Upholstery Chaos

Masking, filling holes, caulking, etc today.  And they started re-painting the walls a bit.
I'm knee deep in fabric swatches for the reading nook cushions and also doing some furniture shopping.

The great news is the new range hood is almost complete!  They really worked hard to get us a new hood quickly.  Getting the shipping company to pick up the damaged hood in it's big crate is another story.  Still waiting on that to happen.

"Are You Sitting Down?"

That's how the builder started the call today!  I was worried it was bad news, but it was the opposite!  Remember how there are no generators or transfer switches to be found right now...anywhere?  Our builder dug deep into his connections and somehow got us a generator and transfer switch!!!  He is not revealing his source, to us or to the electrician.  It's not a shady deal, but it's definitely a favor from someone on the inside.  Even the biggest distributers can't get generators right now.  But by some miracle ours is supposed to be arriving with the source tomorrow, then headed our way.  I'll wait to celebrate until I see it in the garage.  The transfer switch is going home with the builder.  No way is he letting it out of his sight.  I was uneasy about moving into a house without a generator in the middle of winter.  If this works out that'll be one big worry off the list.

In other news, the painters started inside today!  It's incredibly dull progress as far as pics to share.  They're vacuuming and taping things off.  But this is definitely a big milestone!

The house looked particularly pretty today.  Or maybe I just haven't seen it on a clear day in a while.

Tile Epiphany

I have to share my tile win today!  On Friday the tile guy finished the laundry backsplash, but the right side of the window not matching the left made my eye twitch.
The problem with raising the right side was the tile edge would intersect the light switch cover plate.  So I pitched an idea to tile all the way to the door casing, down to the baseboard, and up to match the height on the left.  They made it happen and it looks so good!  It'll be even better without the blue tape and with grout.

The tiler added the pencil liner to the kitchen backsplash, patched up the bathroom floors where we had the vanity cabinet changes, finished the tile baseboard install around the door casing, and installed the ledge and curb slabs in our shower.  Now we just need grout!  (And a range hood so they can tile up to the bottom of it)
