Bye Bye Cabinet Doors

The hallway, study, and entry have flooring.  He was working on the entry closet when we stopped by.  Otherwise it's just the hallway leading to the office and the office itself left to finish off the main floor.  Still love the flooring.

The cabinet company hauled out all the doors that need to be re-done.  It's a lot.  But mistakes happen and they're going to make it right.

Two shed kits arrived today.  One will go in the garden and the other is temporary storage until we get a shop built.

I keep striking out on finding a slab to replace the two pieces in the kitchen they messed up when drilling.  Either they're already taken, or don't match the rest of the kitchen.  And new supply is dependent on shipping containers...need I say more.   I don't want to switch it for something that doesn't match as well, or isn't as pretty.  We may keep what we have and learn to ignore the cracks.  They're tiny, so that's good I suppose.

And there is a 480lb crate with our 200lb range hood inside, on it's way to WA!  Can't wait to see it!

Intermission

We took a much needed getaway to do fun stuff like this.  But as soon as our cell signal was back, I was answering cabinet questions.  And 3 more calls today so far.  Back to work!

Cursed Doors

I finally finished Viv's barn doors for her new closet.  Relief!  This should have been easy.  It was a kit for a single door.  The wood is from an old barn in Oregon.  All I had to do was turn it into two smaller doors so they would work with her funky sloped walls.  But this project was an absolute pain from start to finish.  I'm so glad they're done.  I just need to throw some handles on them, then I hope to not look at them for a while!

No Saggy Mirrors

The door for the garage is really here!

Can lights are in the dining room.  Panels look great and we can see the electrical coming together inside.

They trimmed the concrete footings so the forms will fit around them.

And today we installed some nailers so all bath mirrors and floating shelves will have wood to mount to, not just drywall.  I asked permission from the builder to do this because I don't like mounting heavy things in just drywall, and sometimes the stud spacing just isn't convenient.  This way we should be covered.

Tween Cave / Dog House

Yes, we've outgrown our current home to the point Mason is now hanging out in the dog house.  He's even run an extension cord so he can listen to his audiobook without running out of battery.

Jeremy and the kids built this out of construction scraps.  Maybe someday it'll have real siding too.  🙂

We're Finally Feeling the Impact of the Shutdown

We've been very lucky over the past month of the state shutdown for many reasons.  One reason is our architect and civil engineer were willing to work on our projects from home and get them wrappe dup.  It was a close call and took some work, but we were able to get finalized plans and drainage engineering during a time when businesses were stopping work altogether.  The day after the architect finished our plans she was taking time off.

Another reason is the well drillers decided to start and finish our project.  Residential construction is not allowed currently, but technically work that provides water to people is an essential business.  They were already staged to drill so they got it done...just barely and on a technicality.

A third reason is even though King County Development has closed their offices, they are still allowing limited types of permits to be submitted online, including Residential Building Permits.  So we were able to apply for our permit and get the ball rolling despite the shutdown.

But now, we're feeling it.  We can't demo the old shed, decommission the old well, or remove the well road because none of that work is allowed until at least May 4th.  But really all of those things should be done before the county comes out to look at our site.  A little nervous about it all, but not much we can do about any of it!
