Landscaping Update

 

I've been either planting or mowing all day. I didn't realize Lonicera was such a bee magnet this time of year, but it's been fun hearing all the happy buzzing while I worked. And Jeremy finished mounting the Starlink dish to the house and made the cable going to it nice and tidy.

Electrical Wrap Up

 

The electrician and builder were here all day! I'm so happy to say we finally have Starlink connected to our mesh system, which means strong internet throughout the house. We have a functioning doorbell. Our speakers are working. The hose bib isn't dripping. And we have a pretty pendant over the tub.

 

 

I Have a Plant Problem

 

I try to plant several pots a day, but I can't seem to get ahead...probably because I keep buying plants. But the more that goes in, the more the yard becomes ours. I've already seen a couple hummingbirds who stopped by to check out the progress. And we had other animal visitors this week. 

 

Our closet order should have arrived with the installer today, or it'll be next Tuesday. We're so frustrated with this process. But we finally received the longer cable we need for Starlink internet. Next Thursday the electrician is scheduled to come out to get things up and running, along with speakers, doorbell, and our bathroom pendant over the tub. Hopefully there'll be no more ugly cable snuck through our bedroom window after he's done.

Ready For Sod

Big crew working today. Looks like they're ready for sod! Some plants we planned for aren't available right now, so we're figuring that out. We put one big tree in the ground tonight, but it was too dark for pics by the time we finished.   

Electrical final inspection happened today. Final interior cleaning is happening March 4th and we have the green light to start moving extra furniture or anything we want out of the way after that date. Our official move-in date is still tbd, but will probably be about a week later or so. Sometime in mid-March. Instead of our move date being too far away, now it seems too soon! So much to do and not enough days to do it.

Landscaping Day 4

Landscaping Day 4: We continue to be surprised with how quickly they're moving.  They expect to finish this coming week.  We have some minor adjustments but otherwise love what they've done so far.  And the electrician installed the exterior wall lights today!

Cursed

Not a single thing went right at the land today.  Not one.  Our stair railing arrived and was a lesser version of what we'd requested.  They've been working on it for months and now they need to start over.  Our bathroom mirrors were installed and the reflection is like a fun house mirror, so they need to go.  The doorbell the electrician installed isn't ringing inside the house.  And our exterior lights are still stuck in Seattle so he can't wrap up the electrical.  I''m glad no other subs showed up today because the site is cursed.

(As long as you don't look in the glass, they're fine. 🤣)

Off-site projects seem unaffected by the bad luck.  I finally started working on the pantry cabinets.  I've never built cabinets before, so we'll see.  If this goes south, we'll have an expensive pile of firewood.  

The tentative plan for the week is tomorrow the finish guy continues with door handles and barn door installation, and the concrete crew is going to create tents with plastic to cover the areas about to be poured.  While they're doing that, I'm going to ignore my weather app that currently reads "chance of snow" for Wednesday.  Wednesday is the concrete pour.  Please cross your fingers for this one.  We really need concrete so the exterior can be finished.  Wednesday is also the return of the plumbers.  They're still missing a bunch of parts, so we'll see what gets done.  Friday our long lost cabinet doors are supposed to arrive.  Not holding my breath on that one.  And I'm guessing the concrete cutters will do their thing Friday, assuming we have concrete to cut.  Hoping tomorrow is a better day!

So Many Rocks

Ooof.  We worked sooo hard today.  Not many pics because I did not stop working long enough to take any.  260' of fence posts are dug.  No posts set yet...we're just digging as much as we can while we have the digger rented.  Although the first 100' was not digging at all.  More like chiseling through tightly packed rock.  It took forever.  We are sore and tired, but somehow still had fun.  I guess that's why we're married.  ❤

Round two of post whole madness is tomorow.  It should be easier digging for the most part.  

The painter re-rolled all the upstairs living spaces with fresh paint.  It looks and smells so nice.  And I noticed the speakers are in the kitchen ceiling, which explains some of what the electrician was up to yesterday.

Now We're Talkin'

We have appliances!  And back porch spotlights, speakers, and wifi booster!  (Ignore the red range knobs.  The stainless ones will go on eventually.)   The wrong tankless water heaters were installed today, so that stinks.  But I got one more corner fence post in and I'm loving the lighting out back and appliances, so pretty good day at the house. Next week is going to be crazy busy with everyone coming back to wrap things up.  And all our doors should be returning too.

Post # 2

It sounds like this week is going to be a bust.  Our tankless hot water heaters might be installed on Friday, but otherwise the plan is for everyone to start fresh next week.  Let's hope the icy road is melted by then.  I did pop over and put in a fence post today.  And I like how the spotlights aiming up in the front porch ceiling turned out.  Looking forward to seeing them installed out back as well.

Still Stuck

This weather is wrecking our timeline, but not much we can do about it!  A 2WD van is what most of the contractors are driving, and that isn't going to cut it on the road into our neighborhood.  Hoping things melt and we have a bare road later this week.  But here's a few pics of electrical progress that happened last week.  Stairwell pendants and bathroom sconces upstairs.

Stuck

It's going to be a quiet week.  The electrician tried to come today, but ended up in a ditch on the road coming into our neighborhood.  Fortunately he was fine and the builder got him out.  I'm assuming he didn't have chains on.  Appliance delivery has been postponed to next week.  Not much we can do but wait out the weather!   

In the meantime, I'm looking through pics from my nursery visit last week.  Trying to choose favorites to include right away, and others to add over time.  Here's a few that might make the cut.
