Cursed

Not a single thing went right at the land today.  Not one.  Our stair railing arrived and was a lesser version of what we'd requested.  They've been working on it for months and now they need to start over.  Our bathroom mirrors were installed and the reflection is like a fun house mirror, so they need to go.  The doorbell the electrician installed isn't ringing inside the house.  And our exterior lights are still stuck in Seattle so he can't wrap up the electrical.  I''m glad no other subs showed up today because the site is cursed.

(As long as you don't look in the glass, they're fine. 🤣)

Off-site projects seem unaffected by the bad luck.  I finally started working on the pantry cabinets.  I've never built cabinets before, so we'll see.  If this goes south, we'll have an expensive pile of firewood.

The tentative plan for the week is tomorrow the finish guy continues with door handles and barn door installation, and the concrete crew is going to create tents with plastic to cover the areas about to be poured.  While they're doing that, I'm going to ignore my weather app that currently reads "chance of snow" for Wednesday.  Wednesday is the concrete pour.  Please cross your fingers for this one.  We really need concrete so the exterior can be finished.  Wednesday is also the return of the plumbers.  They're still missing a bunch of parts, so we'll see what gets done.  Friday our long lost cabinet doors are supposed to arrive.  Not holding my breath on that one.  And I'm guessing the concrete cutters will do their thing Friday, assuming we have concrete to cut.  Hoping tomorrow is a better day!

Study Doors

I didn't have the oompf to check the progress last night, so here's a late update. The barn doors to the study are installed along with some towel rings, tp holders, towel bars, and door handles. He has a lot more staged to do, so I'm guessing we'll see the bedroom closet doors go in soon.

Happy Hellebores

More plumbing progress today.  The toilet situation is my fault and I'm kicking myself.  It's not awful, but not great either.  I guess if our only disappointment with the house is toilets we did pretty well.

Tomorrow our door levers and bath hardware will be installed.  I took a trip to Flower World and some beautiful hellebores came home with me.  We have some in our plan, but these were too pretty to leave behind.  Can you tell I'm ready for landscaping?

Plumbing Woes

We seem to be having bad luck when it comes to plumbing.  We're still missing shower trim kits and our bath faucet handles.  First they brought the wrong toilets.  This time they brought the right brand and model, but the wrong type.  Unfortunately they installed them today.  We'll see what the builder says tomorrow.  But they made progress under the kitchen sinks and with the tankless water heaters.

Some things went well today.  Couch pieces were delivered and fence posts are done.  I had a quick call with the landscape designer and he should have the revised plan ready this Friday or early next week.

No Salvatore Sightings

The neighborhood ravens kept flying over while I was working on fence posts in the thick fog.  It was a very Vampire Diaries pilot episode type moment.  Not sure who other than my sister will know what I mean, but it was a little creepy.  No vampire sightings though.

The heat pumps were set in place (finally!), and some bathroom mirrors are installed.  The plumber returns tomorrow, hopefully with the correct toilets.  Friday the door handles and bathroom hardware (towel hooks, tp holders) will be installed.  Our movie room couch is being delivered to the new house tomorrow.  Not the best timing, but I pulled up the ramboard, will vacuum, and have them put it in the center of the room in plastic.  It was so nice to get a look at our floors again!

Foggy Fencing

Just me putting in fence posts in the mist today.  This thick fog is like something out of a movie.

More Stain

More stain today!  Just a little more to do in the kitchen.  And everything needs to be sealed.

Stain Day

Stain is happening!  And concrete is coming Feb 2nd!  The builder plans to rent tents if necessary so our pour can happen rain or shine.  This is through a private company.  No changes with the strike as far as we know.

Heat Pumps...Where Are You?

We finally have doors downstairs!  The painters have plastic all over (again) and continued sanding the wood posts and beams.  I've been told they plan to stain one stair post and then wait for us to approve before doing the rest.

In other news, we have been waiting and waiting for heat pumps.  They were ordered 6+ months ago and there's no eta on when they'll arrive, if they ever do.  We're limited on what units can be installed based on the setup in place.  But the heating company suggested a different unit that's available and works with what we have prepped.  I guess it's an upgrade, but they're giving them to us for the same price.  At this point we'll happily take what we can get.  We gave them the green light to move forward with the replacements, so hopefully they're installed soon.

How Will I Ever Sleep Tonight?

There is a can of Minwax Color Wash stain on the kitchen island...the same product we've asked them to use on our millwork.  But it's in the wrong color.  I panicked.  Nothing has been stained with it yet.  We checked.  But it's THERE.  I texted the builder and he confirmed our stain isn't on site yet.  But then why is this can on the island?  I'm nervous.  I wanted to take the can altogether, but figured leaving a big note taped to it that reads, "Call builder before using.  Wrong color!" was a more sane approach.  But I'm tempted to go back and hide the can.

Some painted doors and drawers are reinstalled.  And seven more fence posts went in the ground this morning.  I've turned the back corner and am about even with the center of our back porch.  It isn't fast, but I have a system down that works pretty well.

Mucky Day 3

Fence posts are going in.  It involves carrying heavy concrete bags through the mud over and over, which is as much fun as it sounds.  But to see the outline of the future yard is rewarding.  The stretch of posts on the south side are in as well as the front gate area.  And there's one post started on the west line.  I ran out of daylight before I could grab decent pics.
