Raisin Curse

The Curse of The Raisin has struck again!!!  For those of you who don't know, "The Raisin" was Jeremy's 1998 Honda Accord.  On the day he bought it (used), it was gray.  Really.  I was there.  But several days later and in different weather, it was purple.  Or at least gray with a serious purple undertone.  We checked the paperwork and found the paint color listed as "raisin".  That car was forever known as "The Raisin" and the two of us have been highly skeptical of anything gray since.

Fast forward to our gray-toned home under construction.  We've worked so hard to make sure all our grays, whether paint or tile, aren't purple.  But the exterior trim snuck by us.  It's purple.  I think somewhere between our sample and the color matching process, things went badly.
Yep.  It's purple.

So, we've officially stopped the painters.  🙁  I've spent today trying to identify a new color and test it out.  We've given our new choice to the builder and asked them to use the brand of paint it comes in, rather than color matching it at Sherwin Williams if possible.  Fingers and toes crossed the new color works.  If it doesn't, we're going to live with it and fix it next summer.  We're also working with the painters to make sure the stained wood elements are going to look like we hope.  Tough day for sure.
Begone evil raisin!

On the plus side, the floors look amazing.  I'm so glad the inside is going well since the outside is so stressful.  I can't get pics tonight because HE'S STILL WORKING!  But I snuck a couple when we were there this afternoon.

One Yes, One Maybe

We're loving the floor!  We only peeked in the door because he's still working but it looks beautiful so far.

The outside....too soon to say.  It's getting dark and the paint is wet.  We like the body color, but aren't loving the trim that's painted so far.  But there's a lot more trim to go.  We're going to take turns going over first thing tomorrow to see it in better light once it's dry.

Also, nothing that's white will stay white.  There is more trim paint to go, including fascia, lower band boards, garage doors, etc.

Goodbye Yellow!

The front is masked and they were able to spray some of the gray body color this evening.  Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful weather.  Perfect day for painting!

Inside they sanded all the floors and staged the boxes of flooring throughout the house.  Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Bruised Arms

Round 2 done.  Ugh.   Round 3 involves 16' boards and will need to wait until I can get my hands on a longer trailer.

Nice & Tidy

I think we have the cleanest house under construction EVER.  It's all vacuumed and tidy, ready for flooring to begin next week.  Attic insulation was blown in today.  I like the idea of the house being tucked in and cozy before winter.

We got word that no concrete is coming next week, which is a bummer.  But the good news is exterior paint is happening!  If the weather holds they're hoping to make progress next week.  I'll be nervous about our paint color choices until I see it on the house.  You just don't know for sure what it'll look like until then.

And my arms are SORE from unloading fence posts today.  And this load was less than half of them. 😳 I'm going to blame it on the fact that most of them are super wet, so extra heavy.

Laundry Carts and Other Excitement

Nothing much new today.  They emptied the dumpster, but I don't think you want to see a photo of that.  But my special laundry carts arrived!  The laundry room cabinet layout was designed with these carts in mind.  Can't wait to have a functional laundry room in just a few months.

Also, after telling me (twice) that these little holes in the floor didn't need to be spray foamed, the builder went ahead and did it anyway.  Possibly so I'd shut up about it.  Regardless, I'm happy they're filled.

Posts and Skirts

We have a stair rail and skirt!  The center panels will be fabricated out of metal.  But the wood portions are in.  All ready for flooring which should begin Monday.
