Good News and Bad News Friday

We have news!  Our remaining doors, including our front door, will be here Monday.  They will be raw (unstained), but we don't care.  We just need the doors so they can be installed, then they'll pull the pins and take them back to stain them while the painters are doing their thing at our house.  This was the builder's idea and it's keeping us on schedule.  Good news.

Also good news is the tile crew is coming back on Monday too.  Backsplash in kitchen and laundry, finishing the tile baseboards, etc.

And Wednesday the painters arrive to start on our interior.  They've blocked out a big chunk of time for our project.  Puttying and prepping all the newly installed trim will be the first thing they tackle.  We've been told our house is about to become a big paint booth, plastic and tape everywhere.

The not so great news is the part we need for our built-in generator to work...the part we were told we'd have in December...now has an ETA of August 2022.  We're going to wait until December to decide what to do, and hope in the meantime that the part miraculously arrives.

Also, the stain we picked out for the exterior woodwork is a big NO.  It's way darker than we want.  Luckily we found this out from the test board they stained for me, not once it was on the house.  So today I was running around trying to find the right stain.  We're barely warm enough for exterior stain application, so we need to figure this out quickly.

The other not so great news, which we already knew, is that the weather is not cooperating for concrete.  We really need some dry days so they can pour.  And it's about to hold things up on the exterior.  We're having semi-serious discussions about renting a giant event tent to cover the space.  Which is ridiculous, but if this wet streak continues we may need to get creative.

P.S. I know the finish carpenter worked today, but other than prepping some basboard trim near doorways, I'm not sure what got done.  But next week should be busy!  Also, some very cool bench legs arrived in the mail today for a bench I'm building for the new entry.
